Reporting to the Senior Manager of Intellectual Property Protection – Data Strategy in our San Francisco headquarters, the Intellectual Property Protection (IPP) Data Manager will be responsible for broad scale data analysis, business systems analysis and project planning, as well as ad hoc analyses related to systems, large datasets, licensees, products and marketplace trends.

Essential Job Functions

Data Management and Stewardship

  • Manage and monitor reports/data in a proactive and timely manner, ensuring integrity of data (completeness and accuracy)
  • Manage data resolution, cleansing, and standardization in a timely manner
  • Proactively troubleshoot data errors/issues, working with IPP, IT, and Legal Operations to determine root causes and drive toward solutions
  • Proactively develop validation tools and other enhancements to increase efficiency
  • Implement agreed upon changes and improvements to reports/data within IPP Data Strategy Team’s reporting tools
  • Lead and manage key data analytics projects as requested/needed, determining necessary data collection and resources
  • Establish data management policies and procedures, and best practices
  • Enhancement, resolution, and download/upload of various data elements across several reporting types (Implementation data, Royalty Paid by Others data, etc)
  • For Implementation partner reporting:
    • Upload reports into IPP’s internal systems
    • Track reporting trends and follow up with customer on any issues (Eg, missing reports, incorrect/duplicate reports, etc)
    • Resolving (cleansing/standardizing) various reported data elements (EG, customer names, part numbers, etc)
  • Uploading audit findings (System and Implementation) into IPP’s internal systems
  • Assist in the preparation of Inspection Packages for Implementation audits:
    • Timely completion of data preparation, cleansing, enrichment, standardization, and analysis

Systems Analysis, Project Management, and Training

  • Assist in determining business requirements for specified applications as it relates to data quality and enrichment
    • Assist in creating detailed documentation for application development and enhancement, including workflow, program functions, and steps required to develop or enhance applications – including defining scope, objectives and use cases and business requirements as it relates to data quality and enrichment
    • Assist in creating and maintaining data related project schedules by tracking all phases of the project product/service lifecycle, providing timely reporting of issues that impact project progress, coordinating actions, and resolving issues
  • Train various teams on tools, reports, and data analysis


  • Effective in building highly collaborative relationships with other internal and external teams to provision the IPP team with data needed to do their jobs

  • SAP Business Intelligence/SQL
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel


  • 5+ years of data management and analysis skills
  • Demonstrated leadership & people management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science or Engineering. Graduate (or equivalent experience) degree preferred
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, ability to influence
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Access. Knowledge of SQL preferred.
  • Experience in managing data reporting, consolidation and analysis
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects independently, with minimal direction, and with solid follow through
  • Exceptional written, oral, and presentation communication abilities
  • Experience in technology industry a plus
  • Strong ability to mediate complex cross functional issues and work with others in fast paced, dynamic environment
