About Our Team 

eBay seeks a business-savvy, data-driven, action-oriented engineer to join its Experimentation (A/B testing) team.

The Experimentation Team collaborates across eBay product domains to design high-quality experiments and provides quantitative insights for data-driven decision support. As an integral part of the team, you will develop analytics tools/queries to ensure that experimentation metrics are reliable and useful for making product launch decisions.

Specifically, you will:

  • Develop appropriate test strategies for testing Experimentation data pipeline to measure impact on key metrics. A portion of your time will be used to build and maintain automated test suites using advanced frameworks.

  • Develop and communicate a deep understanding of eBay product metrics and identify data integrity issues in the generation of metrics
  • Work with product stakeholders (analytics, product management, engineering, quality) to identify root cause of data integrity issues and provide recommendations for generating product insights
  • Perform analytical deep-dives to identify problems, opportunities, and specific actions required to remediate
  • Leverage data driven insights in the product brainstorming, road-mapping, and trade-off discussions
  • Work hand-in-hand with product management, engineering, design, and senior leadership to rapidly execute, learn, and iterate
  • Work hands on with large datasets using SQL, Pig/Hive, Teradata, and other data/statistical tools including R Python as well as reporting tools such as Tableau.

You will have (qualifications):

  • A MS/PhD or Computer Science degree from a top-tier institution or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on experience with data processing, e.g. SQL (specifically Teradata) and Pig/Hive/Scala (Hadoop). Java framework experience (Play, Spring, JSF, Hibernate etc) is a plus
  • Familiarity with statistical packages (SAS or R) and BI tools (Tableau)
  • Experience in a product analytics role
  • Familiarity with how products are architected, created (agile methodology), & QA’ed
  • Mindset to improve data analytics and quality by develop tools/automations/monitoring.

  • Extremely comfortable working with large sets of data and delivering business insights from the data using analytical techniques.
  • Familiar with EBay products
  • Strongly collaborative and influential, as well as able to communicate complex data concepts in business language across the organization through senior executive level
  • Able to differentiate what actually matters from the noise and prioritize ruthlessly
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, multitasking, shifting priorities, and frequent context-switching in a fast-paced environment
  • Experienced in an e-Commerce or network business environment.
