2018-01-31 NEWDistribution Release: Linux Lite 3.8
Jerry Bezencon has announced the release of Linux Lite 3.8, an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the lightweight Xfce desktop. “Linux Lite 3.8 Final is now available for download. There have been a number of changes since the 3.6 release. This is the last release for Series 3.x. Linux Lite 4.0 Final will be released on June 1st, 2018. The changes for Linux Lite 3.8 include – more support for LibreOffice, regional support for DVDs, a Font Viewer/Installer and we now have our own Google-based Search page as the home page in Firefox. We’ve also added TLP for Laptops to Lite Tweaks. We’ve added a Thesaurus (Synonyms) to LibreOffice for the US language… If you have DVDs that are from another region other than your own, you can now easily change region so that it will play in VLC. It is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. “Linux Lite 3.8 beta is now available for testing. There have been a number of changes since the 3.6 release. This is the last release for the 3.x series Linux Lite 3.8 final will be released on February 1st, 2018. Jerry Bezencon has announced a new release of Linux Lite, a beginner friendly Linux distribution based on Ubuntu and featuring the Xfce desktop environment. The new version, Linux Lite 3.6, makes it easier to select nearby software sources for faster downloads and includes a new way to search through documentation. “Linux Lite 3.6 Final is now available for download. There have been a number of changes since the 3.4 release. In this release, we introduce two major new features. Firstly, Lite Sources is a repository selector that allows you to easily select a software repository nearest to you. When new versions of Linux Lite branded applications are released, you’ll now get much faster download speeds thanks to Lite Sources. The second newest feature for Linux Lite 3.6 is the inclusion of both an on-line and off-line search engine for the Linux Lite Help Manual. The new development release, Linux Lite 3.6 beta, includes a new search engine for the project’s help manual and a new graphical repository manager has been added called Lite Sources. “Lite Sources – A new application for Linux Lite. Lite Sources is a repository selector for Linux Lite created/branded applications… Lite Sources does not include Ubuntu repositories or software. This is only for Linux Lite created applications eg. Lite Software, Lite Welcome, Lite Tweaks etc. New Search engine for the Help Manual – The Linux Lite Help Manual has received the long awaited search engine. This is the culmination of four free software projects rolled into one. The search engine has been designed in such a way that the end result produces an easy to understand UI. The new version, Linux Lite 3.4, makes it easier to schedule software updates, install third-party drivers and create a restore point for the operating system. “Linux Lite 3.4 final is now available for download. Linux Lite continues its focus on security by providing our latest application, Lite Updates Notify. This application is a desktop notification that informs the user of all available updates. You can set update reminders anywhere from once every hour to once every 3 weeks. Continuing our focus on security, Lite Welcome has a fresh new look, reminding you after a fresh install of Linux Lite to install updates, install drivers and set a restore point. This release also brings 4 new features to Lite Tweaks – hibernate and suspend, login and logout options, manage saved sessions and zRam. There have been a number of changes since the 3.2 release. Linux Lite 3.4 final will be released on April 1st, 2017. Lite Updates Notify – a new application for Linux Lite. Lite Updates Notify is a desktop notification that informs the user of all available updates. Menu, Favorites, Install Updates should be run before executing Lite Updates Notify for the first time. This is a notification only. Go to Menu, Favorites, Install Updates if the notification says you have updates to install. This is an optional application, you do not have to use it if you don’t want to and it is disabled by default. Linux Lite 3.4 is based on Ubuntu 16.04.2; however, we do not include the 4.8 kernel hardware enablement stack. The latest release, Linux Lite 3.2, features several package updates as well as improvements to the look and contrast of several components. “Linux Lite 3.2 Final is now available for download. The overall theme of this release is a focus on security. Linux Lite will now download and install the latest Linux kernel security updates when they become available via Install Updates. In this release we introduce for the first time the Lite Desktop Widget. This features basic system information as well as updates status to emphasize the importance of keeping your computer up to date. Jerry Bezencon has announced the launch of a new development version of the lightweight, Ubuntu-based Linux Lite distribution. The new version, Linux Lite 3.2 beta, features a number of visual improvements to help users find boot menu entries, see process information and identify icons. Another significant change is the introduction of the Lite desktop widget. “Lite desktop widget – a new optional feature that displays basic system information, including Updates Status that reports the last time you installed updates. A portion of the code for this widget was outsourced, so thank you to those who support and donate to Linux Lite. To enable this after installation, go to Menu, Settings, Session and Startup, Application Autostart tab, tick Lite Desktop Widget. Logout then login again, the widget will appear at the bottom right hand corner of your screen after a few seconds of logging into your desktop. Jerry Bezencon has announced the availability of a new release of Linux Lite, a lightweight distribution based on Ubuntu. The new version, Linux Lite 3.0, features a number of significant changes, including an overhaul of the graphical software manager. “Linux Lite 3.0 final is now available for download. A lot has changed since series 2. We have a new login manager, new boot theme, Lite software has had an overhaul, new system theme (Arc), we’ve added share hardware configuration (Lite Info), folder access from the menu and upgrades are now automated and seamless in series 3. In addition, there have been many bug fixes and adjustments since the beta release. The default final wallpaper represents the colors of our gem code name, Citrine, accompanied by the Linux Lite logo.
