Vande Mataram, the National Song of India, was sung by hundreds of people at the Seva Utsava organised by the Adamya Chetana and the National Education Society at the National High School grounds in Basavanagudi on Monday.
The group consisted of students, youngsters, women and senior citizens. There were cultural programmes by artists from West Bengal, Manipur, Gujarat and other states.
Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar, who attended the event, said research and innovation were important for progress and should begin in the classroom. Students should be encouraged in fields like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and other emerging fields, he added.
